We are excited to continue fresh arrivals of African coffee lots with this explosive Kirinyaga AA. It has been a little bit since we’ve had a Kenyan coffee on the menu, and while the acidity can be intense for some, we’re glad to bring back that classic combo of strong acidity, sugary sweetness, and deep honey-like syrupiness that finishes the sips.
This coffee is a Regional Select offering, much like a lot of the rotating Colombian coffees we’ve brought to the menu over the last few years. With that program, our importing partners source based on cup quality and character, seeking a balance of “taste of place” with availability and price. These lots are built as blends from coffees that cup out between 84–87 on their 100-point cupping scale, and come with regional and often microregional traceability, but are not farm- or producer-specific.
We think this coffee curbs the savoriness some coffees from Kenya can have, but still strikes a great balance of everything we enjoy in a great cup of coffee from the region.
We taste: Grapefruit, blackberry syrup, mandarin orange, floral, molasses
